Piety is cause for gaining beneficial knowledge

Question

From what I understand from a verse in the Quran [in Surah Al-Baqarah] is that if we fear Allaah, he will teach us. Does that cover all types of knowledge? For example, if I am about to customize a product, and I learn new things gradually that amaze me, things which I find myself surprised to learn, can I say that this is what happens when we fear Allaah or remind myself of the verse in Surah Al-Baqarah?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

This verse indicates that achieving Taqwah (piety/fear of Allah) is a reason for gaining beneficial knowledge. Al-Qurtubi, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "Allah says (what means): {And fear Allah. And Allah teaches you. And Allah is Knowing of all things.} [Quran 2:282]; it is a promise from Allah that whoever fears Him, He will teach him, meaning He will put in his heart a light by which he will understood what he is taught, and He may put a criterion in his heart from the beginning, meaning a criterion by which he distinguishes between the truth and falsehood. In this sense, Allah says (what means): {O you who have believed, if you fear Allah, He will grant you a criterion and will remove from you your misdeeds and forgive you. And Allah is the possessor of great bounty.} [Quran 8:29]"

The most important knowledge is what a person learns of Islamic religious knowledge. It is likely that the worldly sciences that are beneficial to the nation are also included in this knowledge. The evidence for this is what is mentioned in Islamic texts, that fearing Allah is the means for a person to achieve success and to be granted facilitation in all of his affairs.

Allah says (what means): {And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him of his matter ease.} [Quran 65:4] Allah also says (what means): {And fear Allah that you may succeed.} [Quran 2:189]

Allah knows best.
