Degree of hadeeth: ‘All creatures are the dependents of Allah...’

Question

Is the saying: "All God's creatures are His family; and he is the most beloved of God, who does most good to God's creatures," a hadith?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

The statement in reference was narrated as part of a weak report that is not authentically attributed to the Prophet, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. It was narrated on the authority of Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said, "All creatures are the dependents of Allah, and the most beloved of them to Allah are those who are most beneficial to His dependents."

This report was cited by Abu Yaʻla Al-Mawsili and Al-Bazzaar. Al-Haythami said, "It was reported by Abu Yaʻla and Al-Bazzaar, and its chain of narration includes Yoosuf ibn ʻAtiyyah As-Saffaar, who was declared Matrook (his narrations are rejected by Hadeeth scholars)." [Majmaʻ Az-Zawaa'id]

This report was also narrated on the authority of Ibn Masʻood, may Allah be pleased with him. Al-Haythami commented on it saying, "It was cited by At-Tabaraani in his books Al-Muʻjam Al-Kabeer and Al-Muʻjam Al-Awsat. Its chain of narration includes ʻUmayr Abu Haaroon Al-Qurashi, who was declared Matrook by Hadeeth scholars."

Al-Albaani may Allaah have mercy upon him classified it as Dhaʻeef (weak) in many places in his books. He said that it is a very weak report in his book As-Silsilah Adh-Dhaʻeefah, no. 3590.

Allah knows best.
