Placing loud music near child's ear

Question

Assalaamu alaykum. I might have done a heinous act. I bought a bluetooth speaker 80*80*32 mm in size (Remax RB-M15) and played a song with full volume. Then I held and placed the speaker's under my one-and-a-half-year-old nephew's arm, approximately 5-6cm away from the left ear, so that he could feel the vibrations of the speaker. I held it there for less than 10 seconds. I felt guilty afterwards, and I did not have any bad intention in doing this, because I love him very much. Then, after I felt guilty, I did it again and held it there for less than 10 seconds. Now I am thinking that I may have damaged his hearing. I am not sure about that; it is mere suspicion. Actually, I am unable to know whether I caused him any harm, as my nephew is only one-and-a-half years old. He seems normal to me, as he is playing and laughing. I feel so guilty; I do not know what to do. This act may be nothing and maybe did not cause any harm to him, but I cannot be sure of it. I am very depressed now. Please help me. What should I do?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ʻalayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

First of all, you should know that listening to music is prohibited; you must repent to Allah of listening to music and use that speaker to listen to what is lawful. Please, refer to fatwa 81545.

As for what you did to your nephew, it seems that it did not harm him. Accordingly, there is no need for your worry, which seems to be pathological, and perhaps you should consult specialized doctors about it.

Allah knows best.
