What is the ruling on drinking coffee before dawn in Ramadhaan knowing that it is a stimulant?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
There is no harm in drinking coffee before dawn during the nights of Ramadan, as Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread [of night].} [Quran 2:187]
The fact that coffee is considered a stimulant does not affect the permissibility of drinking it; rather, one may make use of it to wake up before dawn to pray, remember Allaah The Almighty, seek His forgiveness and perform other acts of obedience.
Allaah Knows best.
