What is the ruling on selling perfume to women who display their beauty in streets, taking into account the Hadeeth of the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, regarding women wearing perfume?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
It is not permissible to sell perfume to a woman who does not adhere to the obligation of wearing the Hijab if one is certain or believes that, in all likelihood, she will wear it while going out in front of non-Mahram (permanently unmarriageable kin) men. That is because selling perfume to such a woman is a form of cooperation in sin and transgression. Furthermore, the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said:
• "Any woman who has scented herself with incense, should not attend the ‘Isha’ (night) prayer with us." [Muslim]
• "Any woman who puts on perfume and then passes by people so that they can smell her fragrance is a fornicators." [Ahmad and An-Nasaa’i]
Allaah Knows best.
