Adjusting picture to use as phone wallpaper

9-5-2017 | IslamWeb

Question:

Assalaamu alaykum Sir. I wanted to ask: I use a Samsung phone and when I put my pictures or any other picture as a home ot lock screen wallpaper, then while I am adjusting the picture which I select to put the wallpaper, it becomes blurred at the back for a while. Can I do that? I mean, I do not blur it intentionally; I just want to select a wallpaper. Please help me as I want to know it. I do not put any filters on my pictures.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

The pictures taken by a device – such as the mobile phone – are permissible, and they are not considered image-making that is forbidden in texts, and there is nothing wrong in making them a background (wallpaper) for the mobile phone.

Similarly, as for adjusting the pictures, by enlarging them or improving their quality, or changing their resolution, etc., there is no harm in this.

It should be noted though that the picture must not be among the pictures that are forbidden to look at, such as images of the ‘Awrah (what should be covered of the body), or pictures of women that non-Mahram (marriageable) men can see, and so on, as these are forbidden.

Allah knows best.
