Performed Tawaaf from inside area of Hijr and then assumed Ihram for another ‘Umrah

Question

I have performed ‘Umrah and, out of ignorance, during the fourth and fifth rounds of Tawaaf (circumambulation), I walked between Al-Hijr and the Ka‘bah. Is there anything due on me? After that, I did another ‘Umrah. What is the ruling on the two?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

If one performs Tawaaf from inside the area of Al-Hijr, then his Tawaaf is invalid. Being so, your Tawaaf as such is not considered valid in the Sharee'ah, and your Ihram (ritual state of consecration) remains till you perform Tawaaf and Sa‘y (going back and forth between Mount Safa and Mount Marwah), and then you could end your Ihram. Therefore, since you did the ceremonies of the second ‘Umrah, it sufficed you for the first ‘Umrah that you had assumed Ihram for. But your second Ihram was not valid because when you assumed it, you were still in the state of Ihram, as has previously been shown. Nothing is due on you concerning doing anything of the proscriptions of Ihram during that period because you were ignorant of the ruling. Allaah, The Almighty, says (what means): {…And there is no blame upon you for that in which you have erred but [only for] what your hearts intended. And ever is Allaah Forgiving and Merciful.} [Quran 33:5]

Allaah Knows best.
