Her fiancé is a liar

Question:

i'm engaged and my fiancee lies a lot to the extent that i do not believe him any more .i can not leave him because my family refuses.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

If it is true that your fiancé lies a lot, then you should try to convince your family, especially your parents, that it might be better to break the engagement. This is better than finalising the marriage and then getting a divorce because of a bad marital relationship.

If your parents are convinced, then praise be to Allaah, but if they insist, then you have the right to break the engagement even without their consent, let alone the consent of others. That is because such marriage will cause harm to you and you have the right to protect yourself from harm.

Finally, it should be noted that the fiancé is not a Mahram to his fiancée unless a marriage contract is conducted between them. Hence, he is not permitted to talk to her except for a need and provided the religious requirements are met.

For more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 86143.

Lying is forbidden and is very dangerous; in this regard please refer to Fatwa 90665.

Allaah Knows best.
