Question:

What was the color of the turbans that the Prophet had?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) loved wearing white clothes and urged people to do so. Ibn ‘Abbaas may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Wear white clothes as they are from the best of your clothes, and enshroud your dead in them.” [Abu Daawood, At-Tirmithi and Ibn Maajah]

However, the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) did not restrict himself to wearing a particular color of clothes; rather, he used to wear whatever was available. It was reported that he wore a black turban. ‘Amr Ibn Hurayth may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) preached to the people while wearing a black turban on his head; for more on this, please refer to Fatwas 84272 and 86786.

He sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) also wore a yellow turban. Al-Fadhl Ibn ‘Abbaas may Allaah be pleased with him who entered upon the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) at the time of his death–sickness, said, “He wore a yellow turban on his head, and I greeted him with Salaam…”

Allaah Knows best.
