Question:

Assalamu Alaykum. I have many questions. Q1) Can we recite darood shareef to our dead ones. Q2) Can we eat the food over which fateha is given. Q3) In india people celebrate festivals like "gyaarvee" and "kunde", so is it permitted or prohibited.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

If what you mean by reciting the darood shareef (exalting the mention of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) to the dead is to present the reward of reciting it to the deceased Muslims, then there is no harm in that. But if you mean otherwise, please clarify it.

As regards eating the food on which Surah Al-Faatihah was recited, then this is permissible since the basic rule is that things are lawful so long as there is no evidence to indicate its prohibition.

On the other hand, it is impermissible for a Muslim person to celebrate the two festivals mentioned in the question. In Islam, there are only two ‘Eeds: ‘Eed Al-Fitr and ‘Eed Al-Adh-ha. It is proven in Sunan Abu Daawood that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, came to Madeenah and the Ansaar had two days on which they used to celebrate, thereupon he said: "Verily, Allaah has given you, in recompense, two days, better than these: the day of Al-Adh-ha, and the day of Al-Fitr." If celebrating such ‘Eeds involve imitating the non-Muslims, the prohibition is even more confirmed.

Allaah Knows best.
