Washing impurity off table or floor

Question:

Assalaamu alaykum. How should I wash a surface (a table or floor) that had Mani (semen) or Mathi (pre-ejaculatory fluid) on it? Is it enough to wet a rag and then wipe the area once? If I need to wipe more than once, do I need to wash the rag each time before each wipe?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

According to the opinion of the majority of the scholars, Mani is ritually pure; and this is the opinion that we adopt at Islamweb. Please refer to fatwa 282940.

If the table or a similar surface is defiled by an impurity such as Mathi or urine, then purifying it is done by pouring an amount of water that exceeds the impurity, so that it submerges the impurity, on the defiled area. It is enough to pour water over it once.

It is not sufficient to wipe the impurity with a wet tissue because this is not considered washing off the impurity. It should be noted that washing these impurities is not an obligation unless you wish to pray on that place.

Allah knows best.
