Question:

I am a Christian, and I am interested in adopting Islam (if I became positive of my feelings), but I'm afraid that if I convert and make it open, I'll break my family's hearts. My family has been Christian for generations, and my father is such a weak man at heart. I'm afraid he'll have a heart attack. I'm so afraid. What should I do? I hate the thought of everything that I've believed my entire life has been a lie.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

We advise the noble questioner to hasten to embrace Islam and avoid any procrastination or delay in this matter. Death may catch her suddenly; then regret and repentance is of no use.

Allaah says (which means): {But repentance is not [accepted] of those who [continue to] do evil deeds up until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "Indeed, I have repented now," or of those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful punishment.} [Qur'an 4:18]

The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "I swear by Allaah, in Whose hands my life is, any Jew or a Christian who hears of me and dies without believing in my message will be from among the people of the Hell-Fire." [Muslim]

Therefore, the matter of faith is very serious and critical which can not be delayed at any cost.

Know that believing in Allaah and accepting Islam is the right of Allaah, the Creator of the worlds, upon you, which is more important than the rights of your parents and your family. In fact, if you accept Islam and sincerely believe in it, you will even become a true follower of Prophet Jesus, son of Mary, may Allaah exalt their mention, because, he had given the glad tidings of the last Prophet being Mohammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) in his book (Injeel) as the Prophet Moses, may Allaah exalt their mention, had also given the glad tidings of his arrival in his book (Torah).

Allaah says (which means): {And [mention] when Jesus, the son of Mary, said, "O Children of Israel, indeed I am the messenger of Allaah to you confirming what came before me of the Torah and bringing good tidings of a messenger to come after me, whose name is Ahmad. "But when he came to them with clear evidences, they said, “This is obvious magic"} [Qur'an 61:6].

So, hurry and do not delay, Allaah will settle all your problems and will make a way out for you.

Try your best to convince your parents and inform them that you have the right to respond to the call of your conscience and embrace Islam. Particularly, in your culture where the freedom of religion is respected, as we know. Otherwise, embrace Islam and conceal your adherence to Islam.
