Staying with a maid in seclusion is impermissible

Question:

I am a married woman, and my husband stayed alone with the maid. What is your opinion in this regard?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

Indeed, your husband has committed a sin by staying alone with the maid; since she is not among his Mahram (non-marriageabe) women and the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: "No man should be alone with a woman except with a Mahram.”  [Muslim] Furthermore, the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, also said: “Never is a man alone with a woman except that the devil is their third [party]." [At-Tirmithi]

Hence, your husband should sincerely repent to Allaah The Almighty and ask for His forgiveness. He must never do this again. Bear in mind that the devil circulates in the human being as blood circulates. In addition, you should eliminate any potential situations that might lead your husband to be alone with the maid so as to help him to obey Allaah The Exalted duly and shield him against committing sins.

Allaah Knows best.
