Question

I get very scared when I face some situations so much so that I lose my will to continue my studies. What should I do?
Fatwa
All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) is His Slave and Messenger.
You must try to have stronger self-confidence. In order to overcome your fear you have to train yourself to handle matters with strong will and full determination. You must develop a new personality that does not settle for lowly objectives and weaknesses. Say to yourself that fear is a characteristic of the weak, not of the powerful.
Read the stories of the Prophets related in the noble Quran such as those in Soorat Al-'A‘raaf and Hood.
Also, read the biographies of the Companions such as Khaalid ibn Al-Waleed, Abu Dujaanah and ‘Ubaadah ibn As-Saamit, may Allah be pleased with them. Before all of them, read the biography of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) especially the aspects pertaining to his bravery and fearlessness.
You could also, recite Soorat Al-Ikhlaas, Al-Mu‘awithataan, verse no.255 in Soorat Al-Baqarah and protect yourself with the Athkaar of the morning and the evening. Put your confidence in Allah The Almighty and never allow your heart be attached to anything but Him.
Besides, there is no harm if you go to a person who is known for his obedience to the principles of Islam and avoidance of people who live their lives according to whims and religious innovations, and tell him what has happened to you. You may ask him to perform the Shar‘i Ruqyah (curing by reciting verses of the Quran) for you; perhaps you are under the effect of an evil eye or a spell.
And Allah knows best.
