Passing by two Meeqaats (designated points for assuming Ihraam (ritual consecration))

Question

We are from Al-Madeenah Al-Munawwarah and we went to Taa’if. Having hired a place for residence in Taa’if, we then wanted to perform ‘Umrah (lesser pilgrimage). So we went to Makkah without wearing the Ihraam dress. Before reaching At-Tan‘eem, something happened to us and we did not complete the ‘Umrah. Are we required to do anything? Thank you!

Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) is His Slave and Messenger.

If you did not assume Ihraam (having the intention to start the rituals of ‘Umrah, and not just the intention to perform ‘Umrah), you are not required to perform ‘Umrah.

As you had the intention to perform ‘Umrah, you were required to assume Ihraam from the Meeqaat of the people of Taa’if, which is Qarn Al-Manaazil (As-Sayl Al-Kabeer), and not from At-Tan‘eem.

If you indeed assumed Ihraam, you were required to complete the rituals of ‘Umrah. Now, you are required to offer a sacrificial animal because you assumed Ihraam after passing the Meeqaat.
Allah Knows best.
