Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Saying ‘Bismi Allaah wassalatu was-salaam…’ before the Iqaamah of every prayer is a religious innovation because –as far as we know –it was not reported neither from the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) nor from the companions may Allaah be pleased with them that they used to say this before the Iqaamah.

Rather, the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "Whoever does an act which is not in agreement with our matter [Islam] will have it rejected" [Muslim] Moreover, the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said:"Whoever introduces an act that is not in accordance with ours (concerning religion), it will be rejected." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Hence, we warn you against those who claim to revive the Sunnah whereas in reality they revive innovations. Therefore, what should be taken into account is the reality and not the names. If such a group wants to revive the Sunnah, they should stop doing that innovation and they should know that the best guidance is the guidance of the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) and it was not among his sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) guidance to say "Bismi Allaah wassalatu was-salaam…" before the Iqaamah.

Allaah Knows best.
