He needs to use a website boycotted by the state

Question

I am from Pakistan and in our country youtube is blocked due to the blasphemic movie "innocence of muslims" ...I want to know that this blockage has been there for quite a some time but results are not visible...In Pakistan, however, many people use youtube through proxy softwares and otherwise...I have boycotted youtube myself and though I can use it through proxy,I don't use it...but now I feel that maybe I should use it as I need it for study purposes and other things;as there has'nt been much effect of this (may be)superficial boycott...what should be done and what should i do?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

To be effective and a means of deterrence, a boycott should have an objective, in the sense that all or most Muslims stop dealing with the website that published what offends the Prophet of the Muslim nation, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. However, the fact that it is carried out without an objective or that some Muslims abide by it while other Muslims do not, then this will undermine its effect and the desired end will not be attained.

Anyway, whoever abides by that boycott even if alone, with the intention of supporting Islam and its Messenger, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, there is absolutely no doubt that he will be rewarded for that because the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: "Actions are indeed judged by intentions and every person will only get the recompense of what he intended." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

As long as you need to use that stated website in your study and most of the people do not abide by the boycott as you have stated, then there is no blame on you to use it and benefit from what is lawful in it.

Allaah Knows best.
