Several methods for calling people to Allaah

Question

I got to know some brothers who call to Allaah The Almighty on the streets. They asked me to join them in practicing Da‘wah, but I feel that I am not ready for that. Will I be sinning if I refused?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

Calling to Allaah The Almighty may be fulfilled through words or actions. It has various ways and methods, and Muslims are not obligated to adopt a specific one of them.

However, a specific way becomes obligatory on a person in one of the following two cases:

* If one is able to undertake it and there is no one else to do it.

* If others do undertake it but their efforts are not enough.

Among the different ways of practicing Da’wah are holding forums and lectures, giving a personal advice and delivering public sermons, or offering books, tapes and magazines, leading a good example and the like.

Allaah Knows best.
