Ruling on stealing unlawful money to spend on the poor

Question

Is it permissible to steal unlawful money for the purpose of spending it on poor people and in charity?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

Indeed, Allaah, The Exalted, is Good and only accepts that which is good. It is impermissible – by all means – to perform righteous deeds with the intention of drawing closer to Allaah, the Exalted, by committing prohibitions. The two purposes are contrary and the two destinations are divergent.

The end does not justify the means, regardless of how noble the objectives are because they do not justify evil means.

What you have said in your inquiry, dear questioner, is not acceptable according to sound logic or the authentic traditions and religious texts. Such an act can be likened to a woman committing adultery in order to offer the money in charity! It would have been better if she neither committed adultery nor offered charity at all.

Allaah Knows best.
