Parents will be rewarded for making their female child wear the Hijab

Question

I have a 9-year-old girl. She insists on wearing the Hijaab and I agreed to this. However, I was surprised by many of my relatives blaming me for that and saying that it is too early for her to wear the Hijaab and that Allaah Almighty has not imposed the Hijaab on her (i.e. on that age). Please advise me; should I let her wear the Hijaab, or am I doing something wrong with her if I do this in that time?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Actually, the girl should be appreciated for her keenness on wearing the Hijab although it is not obligatory on her yet, as is evident in the question. You should encourage her to wear the Hijab, especially given that her age is very close to the age of maturity. Indeed, some women, in some countries, reach puberty at the age of nine. Do not pay attention to the objections of your relatives. Our righteous predecessors used to encourage their young children to offer acts of worship so that they would get accustomed to them. Thus, when they grow up, they find them easy. You do not wrong her at all; rather, you will be rewarded for it, Allaah willing.

Allaah Knows best.
