Number of Messengers who performed Hajj

Question

Assalaamu alaykum. I want to know how many Messengers made Hajj in their lifespan?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

We have not come across a religious text that determines the number of the Messengers who performed Hajj and those who did not other than what is mentioned in the book Seerat Ibn Is-haaq and in Dalaa'il An-Nubuwwah by Al-Bayhaqi, which says that Prophet Hood (Hud) and Prophet Saalih (Salih) did not perform Hajj due to being preoccupied with their people until they died.

The scholars differed in opinion about whether all the Prophets – among whom are the Messengers – performed Hajj or that some of them did so and some not. Some scholars said, “All the Prophets performed Hajj to the House of Allaah with the exception of Hood and Saalih, may Allaah exalt their mention." Some other scholars said, “All the Prophets performed Hajj, from Aadam (Adam) until Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) " unlike those who excluded Prophet Hood and Saalih, as stated in Sharh Al-Minhaaj authored by Ibn Hajar Al-Haytami and others.

In any case, the number of the Messengers who performed Hajj or who did not perform it does not lead to any Islamic ruling and does not necessitate any action. If a Muslim has performed Hajj, then he has to praise Allaah for that and ask Him for more blessings and to enable him to be grateful to Him. In case a Muslim did not perform Hajj, then he should endeavor to perform his obligatory Hajj and ask Allaah to facilitate that for him.

We ask Allaah to enable us to do good.

Allaah knows best.
