Benefitting from another person's idea to create a website

Question

Assalaamu alaykom wa rahmatullaah wa barakaatuhu. My friend told me to create a website together. Maybe he does not know how to create one. Ever since that happened, I think he got me into creating websites and, maybe because of him, I started being interested in making websites. So now I have an idea for a great website, and I do not need any workers for it. I want to create it alone, and it is my own idea, not his (but I think that he inspired my ideas), and I am thinking about creating other websites too. So does he have the right to be angry because I think that he got me thinking about creating a website until I got these ideas? I cannot really tell, but maybe he was the inspirational source and inspired me my ideas. May Allaah reward you. Please do not refer me [to other fatwas].

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

If you wish to create a website alone without your friend, then he has no right to be mad at you just because he talked to you before about creating a website. If you wish to let him join you, then that would be a good thing so as to win him over, to acknowledge that you benefited from his idea, and in order to preserve the bonds of friendship that exist between the two of you.

Allah knows best.
