Whispers About Worship And Matters of Faith

Question

Assalaamu-Alaikum,I'm writing with the hope that you can advise me in this matter which I am struggling with.I have been affected and have been struggling with Waswas relating to worship for many years. It first started some years ago when I started trying to reform myself and my religious commitments.I have since tried to remain diligent in my duties, but a few days ago, I have started having evil thoughts. My question is related to these evil thoughts which has started affecting me a few days ago. They are recurring evil and blasphemous thoughts about Allah and His Messenger and His Book as well.I'm not sure if its from Shaytaan or myself. Sometimes it seems as if it's from myself because it feels as if I bring them to mind.I fear that I fall into Kufr and Apostacy each time these thoughts appear in my mind.I recite my morning Athkaar, and I try hard to shift away from them, but they are persistent.I fear dying as a non-muslim, and my deeds rendered null and void, and being cast out of Allah's Mercy.I want to ignore these thoughts, but I fear it will cause me to fall into Apostacy and Kufr, so I rather recite my Shahada again.I find myself having to do this several times per day, every day. What is the ruling of these thoughts? How do I get rid of these thoughts? Also, what does it mean for the thoughts to take root? Does it mean that because it is recurring, that it has taken root?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

These thoughts and whispers do not harm you and do not affect your faith. Rather, hating and denying them proves the truthfulness of your faith, and the soundness of your certainty and uprightness, and confirms your love and glorification of Allah.

So, treat these whispers by ignoring them, repelling them, and not paying any attention to them.

If you are sincere in repelling them, then Allah will rid you of them, with His Favor and Grace.

You should repel these whispers regardless of how you imagine them, and do not pay any attention to them at all.

Have good thoughts of Allah, as you are still a Muslim, praise be to Allah. You do not have to repeat the utterance of the Two Testimonies of Faith because of these whispers. Rather, strive in the worship of Allah and be steadfast on His Sharee’ah; these are the best reasons for having a good end.

Finally, we advise you to consult a trustworthy psychologist, as we think this would be good for you.

Allah knows best.
