Question

Who is the miser that was mentioned in a Prophetic narration?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

The prophetic narration in question was narrated on the authority of Al-Hasan ibn Ali may Allaah be pleased with him in which the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, explained that the miser is a person before whom the name of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is mentioned, but who does not supplicate for him (i.e. say, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). [Ahmad and At-Tirmithi]

The narration clearly emphasizes one of the rights of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, that is: that one should pray and supplicate for him sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam whenever he sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam is mentioned.

Some scholars said that the person who does not pray and supplicate for the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, when he is mentioned is a miser because this person has deprived him/herself of a great reward. The only thing left for such a person stinginess in uttering The Two Testimonies of Faith.

Allaah Knows best.
