Ruling on anal injection and drugs during fasting

Question

Does the use of anal injections and drugs for treating hemorrhoids invalidate fasting?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that none is worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

When something, medicine or anything else, reaches the stomach of a fasting person through the mouth or the nose, then his fasting is invalidated. But if something reaches his stomach through a way other than the mouth or the nose, such as anal injections and drugs taken through the anus or ordinary injections, then it should be investigated whether such drugs are intended for nutrition or not. If they are intended for nutrition, then the fasting is invalid since it is regarded as food. If it is not intended for nutrition, but just for treatment, then fasting is still valid according to the stronger of the two opinions held by the scholars in this regard. This is so since, in this case, the aim of taking such drugs does not contradict the objective of the Sharee'ah behind fasting.

Allah Knows best.
