Thinks his Father Cast Evil Eye on Him and Has Suicidal Thoughts

Question

Hello I've been having a serious question that has continously run in my mind. Long story short while growing up my father developed an intense secret hatred towards me and decided to target everything that I did, along with whatever that I tried to do. He became very toxic to the point where I became depressed, suicidal, to where I had to run away to different city. His hatred targeted my mother also and caused the family to separate and to this day I am still damaged by him and my life has been incredibly difficult to where it is very hard to take care of myself, go to work to afford bills and food, negative thoughts, and anxiety which leads me to the serious question of can a family member cast an evil eye on another? Can a father cast an evil eye on his son? And from the things I have read online can black magic cause this sort of behavior? I do not know any quran or how to pray and socializing is difficult for me so going to a masjid makes me uncomfortable.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is known that a parent is, in principle, innately kind and compassionate towards his child, seeks after his best interests, and guards him from all harms. What you mentioned about your father is contrary to this basic principle, and therefore it is an odd behavior. You should search for the cause of the problem and try to fix it, and do not forget to supplicate Allah, The Exalted, abundantly to rectify his state. Allah commanded us to supplicate Him and promised to answer our supplications. He Says (what means): {And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.} [Quran 40:60]

It is not unlikely that a father may cast an evil eye on his son. However, what you are experiencing is not necessarily because of an evil eye or magic. If your doubts about being afflicted with an evil eye or magic are generated by the negative feelings and pain which you feel and the hardships and troubles that you are experiencing at work to earn your livelihood, then it could be caused by anxiety and stress. This could be the reason for your problems and your state of inactivity and confused thinking. In any case, we would like to remind you that, in principle, your father is not to blame for that. So you should not accuse him of casting an evil eye or a magic spell on you without evidence. We advise you to strive in practicing self-discipline regarding regularly offering the obligatory prayers, attending the congregational prayers in the mosque, abundantly reciting Thikr (expressions of remembrance of Allah), Quran, and performing the prescribed Ruqyah (Quranic healing) on yourself, and filling your time with activities that benefit you in the worldly life and the Hereafter. When you strive to perform these good acts through self-discipline and patience, it becomes second nature to you and they eventually become habitual activities that are easy for you to perform.

If you believe that you need to consult a psychiatrist to help you relieve your anxiety and stress, then do so. He may prescribe some drugs to calm you down. Also, you should keenly keep the company of righteous people and attend gatherings of Thikr. Verily, whoever sits with such people is in no way unfortunate.

As for suicide, we strongly warn you of mere thinking about it or giving any consideration to such thoughts, let alone actually committing it, for it is not a solution to any problem. It is rather a transition to a greater misery and the loss of the worldly life and the Hereafter altogether. Abu Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Whoever kills himself by throwing himself from a mountain, he will be continually throwing himself in the Hellfire, dwelling in that state eternally. And whoever kills himself by drinking poison, his poison will be in his hand to continually sip it in the Hellfire, dwelling in that state eternally. Whoever kills himself with (an instrument of) iron, his iron will be in his hand to continually stab himself in the abdomen with it in Hellfire, dwelling in that state eternally.” [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]

May Allah safeguard us from such an evil, and we ask Him to bless us and you with safety and well-being.

Allah Knows best.
