Used Prohibited Names to Introduce a Person

Question

Assalamualikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu. The word "Diva" is used for a female celebrity but "Diva" is the Latin word for goddess. Is it allowed to use this word? Does using this word take a person outside the folds of Islam?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

The mere use of a name that includes something prohibited by the Shareeʿah to introduce a person, call upon him, or tell others about him is permissible. As such, it is not prohibited or deemed an act of disbelief. This is evidenced by the Hadith reported on the authority of Al-Baraa’ ibn ʿAazib may Allaah be pleased with him who narrated that the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said on the day of the battle of Hunayn: “I am the Prophet undoubtedly; I am the son of `Abdul Muttalib.” [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]

Allah knows best.
