Misses Lecture or Exam when He Prays in Congregation

Question

Assalamualaikum, I have a lecture that does an exam every lecture, one time I missed the exam because of maghrib prayer as the time for the lecture is 5 PM and maghrib Azan time is 4:54 PMThe Imam was reading long surahs after Al-Fatiha, they told me I can redo the exam next time with the new exam but I am afraid I am gonna be late today again, What Do I do?, do I pray at home?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Maintaining the prayer by performing it at its prescribed fixed time and in the legitimate places is one of the characteristics of the believers, as Allah Says (what means): {And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer} [Quran 70:34]

Hence, you should maintain performing prayer at its prescribed fixed time as Allah Says (what means): {Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times.} [Quran 4:103]

You should prepare yourself to plan and organize so that you can perform the congregational prayer and at the same time not be late for your lecture and exams. You can search for a group for congregational prayer that suits your situation and does not interfere with your attendance, even if it is in your home, or in the place of your studying, or near it. However, if you do not find a congregation that suits your time, and you fear that you will be harmed if you are late for the lecture or you miss the exam, then you can pray alone for this excuse, because fear of harm is one of the permissible excuses for not praying in congregation.

We ask Allah to grant you success and enable you to do what is upright and virtuous.

Allah knows best.
