Question

I need to understand the word the context of the word بِصَوْتِكَ in the ayah 17:64 (Surah Isra verse 64). what does shaytan's voice mean ? what do the tafsir and sahabah say ?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Concerning the saying of Allah (which means): {And incite [to senselessness] whoever you can among them with your voice} [Quran 17: 64], Imam At-Tabari may Allaah have mercy upon him reported in his Tafsir (interpretation of the Quran) on the authority of Mujahid that it refers to music and singing. (End quote)

At-Tabari may Allaah have mercy upon him also reported on the authority of Ibn `Abbas may Allaah be pleased with him that Allah’s saying (which means): {And incite [to senselessness] whoever you can among them with your voice} [Quran 17: 64] refers to the voice of whoever incites people to do misdeeds. [End quote]

Then Imam At-Tabari may Allaah have mercy upon him commented on the sayings he reported on the authority of Ibn `Abbas and Qatadah may Allaah be pleased with them saying: “The most correct of these opinions is that Allah, the Almighty, said to Satan to incite whoever he can among the children of Adam with his voice and did not specify a voice in particular. Therefore, every voice that calls people to obey Satan rather than obeying Allah is included in the meaning of the word “voice” stated in Allah’s saying: {And incite [to senselessness] whoever you can among them with your voice} [Quran 17: 64]” [End quote]

Allah knows best.
