Is it permissible to work as a salesperson in a watch store where all kinds of watches are sold including a small portion of solid gold watches. The watches are sold to men and women.

Accepted Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

There is no harm in working in this store, provided that you refrain from selling gold watches specifically designed for men. This is because it is prohibited for men to wear gold. Abu Musa () narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Gold and silk have been made permissible for the women of my nation, but prohibited for its men.” [Ahmad, Al-Nasa’i, Al-Tirmidhi, and Al-Hakim.]

Likewise, it is not permissible to sell such watches to non-Muslim men, as they are also addressed by and included within these rulings according to the majority of scholars.
