Question

I want to have an idea about the principles of Islam.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Islam comprises the fundamental basics of faith, a system of laws and a body of doctrines that regulate Muslims’ lives in all walks of life, i.e. in creed, in worship, in dealings and in conduct and behavior; this is what Allah legislated for His slaves. Allah Says (what means): {He has ordained for you of religion what He enjoined upon Noah and that which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention )], and what We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus — to establish the religion and not be divided therein.} [Quran 42:13]

The main fundamentals of Islamic faith are as follows:

Believing in Allah, His Angels, His revealed Books, His Messengers, the Last Day and the predestination whether it is good or bad (and believing in all its details.)

The main practical principles are the prayer, Zakat (Alms giving), Siyam (Fast) and Hajj (Pilgrimage), and performing all kinds of worship to Almighty Allah alone. Islam has laid down the firm rules of all types of activities related to individuals, family, society, personal life, marriage, trade etc. According to human nature, there should be some mistakes, so Allah has legislated the system of punishment to purify those who commit the sin and to threaten the others. Allah Says (what means): {Verily, Allah enjoins Al-Adl (i.e. to be patient in performing your duties to Allah, totally for Allah’s sake and in accordance with the Sunnah (legal ways) of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) in a perfect manner), and giving (help) to kith and kin (i.e. all that Allah has ordered you to give them e.g., wealth, visiting, looking after them, or any other kind of help, etc.), and forbids Al-Fahshaa’ (i.e. all evil deeds, e.g. illegal sexual acts, disobedience of parents, polytheism, to tell lies, to give false witness, to kill a life without right, etc.), and Al-Munkar (i.e. all that is prohibited by Islamic law: polytheism of every kind, disbelief and every kind of evil deeds, etc.), and Al-Baghy (i.e. all kinds of oppression), He admonishes you, that you may take heed.} [Quran 16:90]

The Sharee’ah orders all forms of good conduct, like truth, chastity, keeping ties with kinship, and forbids all evil deeds. Allah Says (what means): {Should not He Who has created know? And He is the Most Kind and Courteous (to His slaves) all-Aware (of everything).} [Quran 67:14] Islam means to submit yourself to the Creator of all mankind, Who is your Creator as well. Whoever submits himself to Almighty Allah, Allah will bless him. Allah Says (what means): {And whoever submits his face [i.e. self] to Allah while he is a doer of good - then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold. And to Allah will be the outcome of [all] matters.} [Quran 31: 22]

Allah knows best.
