Fatwa CenterWearing Hijab when working around males
Question
I study at a women university, but the laboratory staff is male. Please guide me by Qur'an and Sunnah whether I have to wear Hijab.
Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
Hijab is an obligation on a Muslim woman, so she has to wear it anywhere alien men can see her. Hijab means protecting and covering a Muslim woman from alien men regardless of who they are or where they are.
Therefore, you should wear complete Hijab whenever you enter the laboratory if there are alien men.
Also you should not stay alone with them and should not be soft in speech if you need to talk to them.
