Question
There is a great amount of Muslims living in Europe and as you probably know. There's going to be a referendum in June about settling a European Law for all countries in within the European Union. My question is: What is for Muslims the best thing to do? And why is this? Do Muslims have to sit and look, or is it (for the sake of Islam) a must to vote. What is that Muslims should vote for?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
First of all, it should be noted that in principle it is forbidden to participate in such elections, as by participating one could confirm the falsehood that this constitution contains. However, if the trustworthy scholars, especially those who are in your country, see that there is a religious benefit in participating in this election, like repelling the greater of two evils and decreasing falsehood, then there is no harm in participating.
