Restricting the truth to one particular group is an injustice

Question

One scholar came to one of the conferences which were held in Birmingham, U.K, and this person considered all the people on this Earth either misguided or misguiding except his group to which he was affiliated. He said [reporting his very words]: “There is no Jihaad (fighting in the cause of Allaah) at the moment", and he said: “Do not lose Palestine, or Afghanistan, or Chechnya anywhere.” He further said to the people: “You are upon the truth and all others are upon falsehood.” The catastrophe is that most of the audience are new Muslims, and when they hear this, they will believe that this is the truth, and follow it. So, is there any evidence in Islam to consider whomever you want as a Muslim and whomever you want as a non-Muslim, and consider that Allaah loves only your group?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

Whoever considers the whole world as misguided people and restricted the truth to a particular group of people, he is wrong, unjust and misguided. Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "If a man says: “The people are doomed, he is the first to be doomed." [Muslim]

The truth is what the scholars of the generations which followed the companions may Allaah be pleased with them were upon, in regard to belief, action and statements, and whoever holds fast to this, is amongst them, regardless from any group he is, or any country he comes from. And it is not permissible for a Muslim to despair from freeing Muslim countries no matter how tough the situation is. A day would come when the truth will overcome, and when the people will get back their rights. The statement which you mentioned is nothing but evidence that the person who said it is ignorant, and this will be taken against his group to which he is affiliated. Every person, for what he earned, is retained.

Allaah Knows best.
