The number of the Prophet’s, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, houses

Question

How many homes did Prophet Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, have? Did he keep all his wives in one house, or had he different houses?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

The house of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, was divided into nine rooms according to the number of his wives may Allaah be pleased with them. The separating partitions of these rooms were made of palm leaves. On the door of each room was a curtain made of black hair. Al-Hasan Al-Basri may Allaah have mercy upon him said, "I used to enter the rooms of the wives of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, during the caliphate of 'Uthmaan ibn 'Affaan may Allaah be pleased with him and used to be able to touch their roofs with my hand.”
