Quran shall be preserved until raised at end of time

Question

Allaah says that He will preserve the Quran until the Day of Judgment. It is also said that the Quran will be lifted before the day of Judgment. How do you reconcile these two?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

There is no contradiction between the two matters to begin with. The divine promise of preserving the Quran from distortion and alteration is clearly stated in the Quran. Allah, The Exalted, says (what means): {Indeed, it is We Who sent down the Quran and indeed, We will be its guardian.} [Quran 15:9] The indication of the verse is general; it does not specify that the Quran will be preserved until the Day of Judgment. There is no doubt that it shall be preserved from human interference for as long as it stays on earth before it is raised intact at the end of Time, in accordance with the hadeeth reported by Huthayfah, may Allah be pleased with him, who related that the Prophet, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said, "Islam will wear out as embroidery on a garment wears out until no one will know what is fasting, prayer, (pilgrimage) rites, and charity. The Book of Allah will be taken away one night, and not one verse of it will be left on earth..." [Al-Haakim - Al-Albaani graded it saheeh (sound)]

Allah knows best.
