Fatwa CenterHas doubts about HIV infection due to a used needle accident
Question
Salamou alaykoum During my education for nurse I had an accident with a used needle.( now for almost 3 years ago) It happened 2 times. Im thinking about doing a hiv- test. I discussed it with my training speculators and they told me that I had not nothing to fear. That it was not necessary to do a hiv- test. She told me that it also happened to her several times(6 times) and she didnt do a hiv test. But I really feel anxious to get married because of this. There are days where I feel very scared, depressed and anxious.And other days Im 100% sure that Im not infected. I dont believe that I got infected. Because my believe in Allah is tremendous.Sometimes I think its just the shaytaan who wants me to have doubts. Im also afraid to do a test because it will be reported in my documents and there is a big chance that someone who knows me will read it and then bring it out. So please what should I do? Are these just whispers from the shaytaan to make me doubt in Allah or should I do a test to get rid of the uncertainty. Jazakum Allah
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
First of all, we advise you to take it easy and you should not disturb yourself by thinking about this matter, as this will lead to unpleasant consequences beside this being an uncertain matter. Since you have no symptoms about this disease, all perfect praise be to Allaah, and the nurses told you that you had nothing to fear, thus this should remove the whispers you have and comfort you.
In our view, you should totally forget about carrying out these tests if you have no symptoms which prove that you might be affected by this disease.
We advise you to have trust in Allaah, rely on Him, and believe in His Decree, and seek refuge in him from the devil and his plots.
