The Ruqyah (Quranic healing) for tumors is the same as that for other ailments

Question

Is there a certain supplication in the Sunnah of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, that is used in making Ruqyah for the patient suffering from tumors?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alyhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

There is no particular supplication that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, instructed us to use in making Ruqyah for the patient who is suffering from tumors. The same Sharee‘ah-approved Ruqyah that is used to treat other ailments is used for the patient who suffers from tumors. The following are some relevant Hadeeths:

- It was narrated on the authority of ‘Uthmaan ibn Abi Al-‘Aas may Allaah be pleased with him that he came to the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, complaining of severe pain. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, told him to wipe the place of the pain seven times with his right hand and say the following supplication: "A‘oothu bi‘izzatillaahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajid wa-uhaathir (I seek refuge with the Might and Omnipotence of Allaah from the evil of what I feel and what I fear)." Ibn Abi Al-‘Aas may Allaah be pleased with him said this supplication and Allaah The Almighty relieved his pain. [Abu Daawood]

- It was narrated on the authority of ‘Aa’ishah may Allaah be pleased with her that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, used to say to the patient: "Bismillaah, turbatu ardhina bi-reeqati ba‘dhina, yushfa saqeemuna, bi-ithni Rabbina (In the name of Allaah, the dust of our ground with the saliva of some of us would cure our patient - with the permission of our Lord.)" [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

The Shaafi‘i scholar Imaam An-Nawawi may Allaah have mercy upon him explained that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, put some of his saliva on his forefinger and placed it on the ground so that some dust stuck to it, then he placed it on the painful spot or wound and recited the aforementioned supplication.

The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, instructed us that tumor should be cut open and cleared. ‘Ali may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that he went with the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, to a man from the Ansaar (Madeenan helpers) who was suffering from a tumor, and the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, ordered them to cut the tumor open and clear it. They did so while the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, was watching. [Abu Ya‘la]

Ibn Al-Qayyim may Allaah have mercy upon him mentioned that there are two benefits in opening the tumor: one is to let out the harmful substance and the second is to prevent it from merging with another substance that would make it more harmful.

We ask Allaah The Almighty to cure all Muslims from pain and ailments.

Allaah Knows best.
